1: Walz Administration Accused of Keeping $52 Million Medicaid Fraud Report From Lawmakers Until Weeks Before Election
Minnesota Republicans say the full Optum assessment reached legislators only last week, after the session had ended and too late to act before voters head to the polls
A state-commissioned review of Minnesota’s Medicaid program flagged more than $52 million in improper payments, but lawmakers spent months seeing only a heavily redacted version. Republicans say the delay kept them from fixing the problems while the Legislature was in session. House Speaker Lisa Demuth is now asking the question many Minnesotans want answered: “why are they hiding it?”
Why It Matters to You: Medicaid is paid for by both state and federal taxpayers, so money lost in Minnesota comes partly out of every American’s pocket. The fight over this report is also a test of whether voters get to see how their government is doing before an election. READ MORE
2: Trump White House Fires Back After Bill Maher Predicts Historic GOP Midterm Beating
The HBO host says Republicans are headed for heavy losses in November, but warned that a socialist faction inside the Democratic Party could cost Democrats in 2028
Bill Maher went on CNN and predicted Republicans will suffer “a classic historical a– whooping” in the midterms, blaming President Donald Trump for going too far. The White House quickly pushed back, calling Trump the party’s strongest asset. Maher also had a pointed warning for his own side about the Democratic Socialists of America.
Why It Matters to You: Control of Congress decides whether the president’s agenda on taxes, the border and energy moves forward or stalls. Maher’s warning about the DSA also signals where the Democratic Party may be heading after November. READ MORE
3: Mamdani’s $30 Million Antisemitism Plan Funds Coalition That Includes Anti-Israel Group
A $6.4 million grant goes to a city hate-prevention network whose partners include the Arab American Association of New York, once led by Linda Sarsour
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani promised Jewish New Yorkers a $30 million effort to fight rising antisemitism. But a new report finds part of that money will flow to a coalition that includes a group whose executive director called for a ceasefire resolution “to end this U.S.-funded genocide.” Antisemitic hate crimes are already the largest category of hate crimes the NYPD tracks.
Why It Matters to You: Antisemitic crimes are the top hate crime in America’s largest city, and taxpayers deserve to know their money is going to people who will actually fight it. The controversy is a test of whether government programs sold as protecting Jewish Americans can be trusted to do the job. READ MORE
4: Mullin: Illegal Aliens Wanted in NYPD Detective Stabbing Were Freed by Biden, Sanctuary Policies
One suspect already had a deportation order and an ICE detainer that the NYPD declined, according to DHS
An off-duty NYPD detective was stabbed and slashed seven times in the Bronx when two men on an e-bike tried to steal his gold chain. DHS now says both suspects are illegal aliens from the Dominican Republic with long arrest records who were released at the border under the Biden administration. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin says the attack “could have been prevented.”
Why It Matters to You: Both suspects remain at large in America’s largest city. The case shows what is at stake when local sanctuary policies block federal immigration detainers, and it puts new pressure on cities to cooperate with ICE. READ MORE
5: AOC Calls Abdul El-Sayed’s Michigan Senate Race a ‘Generational Project’
Audio from a closed-door New York fundraiser shows Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez casting the Michigan contest as a test run for the left’s ambitions in 2028
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told donors Monday that if Democrat Abdul El-Sayed wins Michigan’s open Senate seat, “anybody can win anywhere,” according to audio obtained by The New York Times. “We are here to break the map,” she said, as she weighs her own options for 2028.
Why It Matters to You: Michigan’s open seat could help decide control of the Senate, and the left is openly treating it as a launching pad for a bigger national push. How Michigan votes on Nov. 3 will shape what Washington does on spending, the border and judges for years. READ MORE
